Dear friends: I am traveling this weekend, visiting some of my nearest and dearest friends, my soul sisters.
On this first overnight away from home since the declaration of the pandemic, I find myself aware of what a privilege it is to be able to make such a visit.
My job offers flexibility in scheduling. My “old” car (2003!) still provides safe and reliable transportation. My income covers the gas and I’ll be able to treat myself and friends to some meals. Being vaccinated means we can gather safely.
I’ll traverse our beautiful state, seeing some amazing terrain: mountains, sound, forest, shrub steppe, rivers. I’ll spend a couple of days in the (somewhat) cooler maritime climate, a break from our still-intense heat.
The simple ability to step away, take a break, is a source of gratitude.
I wish (and work) for all of my human brothers and sisters and siblings the same.
