Peaceful, powerful, ready
Tides are turning this spring, and we can feel it. Be safe and well, and be ready to move our beloved community toward a just and peaceful future.
On a peaceful spring morning after a day and night of rain, wind, thunder, and lightning, the soft light filters beautifully through the trees. We recoil from imagining the ongoing horrors of this regime’s willful destructiveness: families in detention prisons suffering for lack of food and medical care, civilians far away facing bombed out homes and schools, historic buildings turned to rubble for vanity projects, millions of voters excluded from full representation, all while a temple to the image of violence and aggression rises on the nation’s front lawn.
There is deep pain in confronting the actions taken in our name. We who have the privilege of turning away find it tempting to do so. As in every marathon, we must be sure to pace ourselves, rehydrate, slow our breathing, replenish our inner resources.
The strain on our commitment to living our values is the test of a lifetime - our lifetime. Those of us with resources and options face daily choices of how to deploy them. We wield significant power if we choose to withhold our dollars from companies and billionaires who capitulate or enable the atrocities of the regime. We can send loud messages to those who would prefer our silence.
We can commit radical act after radical act of kindness, inclusion, compassion, and justice. If we do this, daily and persistently, we win the most important battle of all: the one for our own integrity.
Tides are turning this spring, and we can feel it. Be safe and well, and be ready to move our beloved community toward a just and peaceful future.
