In honor of a friend
In honor of a long time family friend, and so many others who anchor their own circles.
Dear friends:
We are awash in sorrow.
A dear and long-time family friend died this past week. I share this personal news here because this friend is often in my mind as I write. I think about his approach to the world, to the community, and to our extended family. I remember his gentle power, his steely, relentless focus on giving, and hope to infuse it in the words that wind up on this page.
In honor of our friend, and so many others who anchor their own circles, an offering of a short poem made of the words that circled my heart upon hearing the news.
His friendship saved lives,
Expanded joy,
Sustained love.
Certainly, all over our human family, loss happens daily. To all whose hearts are heavy, you are not alone.
We grieve together, and will hold each other up as our friend held us, strong and fiercely loving.
Sent with love.
