How they run is how they will govern.
Policy differences pale in comparison to the risk of placing our federal executive branch in the hands of a team lacking all respect for the safety of its own people.
Less than one full month now until election day 2024. Our vigilance for the misinformation, disinformation, and straight-up lies of the Republican presidential campaign shifts into high gear.
This past week was full of lies regarding the federal response to the extraordinary damage from Hurricane Helene. Once again, the lies have real and damaging consequences for people, separating them from the help that is available and interfering with the hard, essential work of recovery.
Once again, the Republican candidates and their campaign machines show no regard for the damage they inflict.
How they run is how they will govern.
Meanwhile, seeing this, more and more leaders across the political spectrum sign on to support the Democratic candidates. Policy differences, while real, pale in comparison to the risk of placing our federal executive branch, once again, in the hands of a team lacking all respect for the safety of its own people, for national security, international peace, democracy, and the Constitution.
It remains to be seen how the electoral college votes will play out, but it is increasingly clear that the popular vote is likely to go for the Democratic ticket (as it has in all but one presidential election in the last three decades: )https://www.britannica.com/topic/United-States-Presidential-Election-Results-1788863).
Our job is to make that popular vote margin so large it cannot be ignored. The Republican candidates will most certainly lie about the outcome if it does not go their way - they are already doing so - but we can offer some defense against such lies by supporting massive turnout.
Call out the lies. Share facts. Make your voting plan, help your friends and family to do the same, and we’ll do this, together.
Be safe and well and vote.
