Fires and hurricanes: the climate emergency is here and now.
There is no need to argue the facts, and no need to feel helpless. We can, and must, be the generations that insists on nothing less than climate justice for all.
Dear friends -
As if it was possible to have serious doubts, this summer makes it clear: the climate emergency is here and now.
Catastrophic fires in Hawai’i. A rare Pacific hurricane heading for California. The hottest summer on record, and possibly in the traceable history of our globe.
I write this on what was forecast to be a lovely summer afternoon, kept indoors by unhealthy air. Smoke from fires southeast, east, and northeast of our valley settled here today; if we are lucky, this will be a short visit.
The emergency is here, and so are many opportunities to rise to the occasion. So for this post, I will share some resources I’ve found meaningful and useful.
Regeneration: https://regeneration.org/
“If we want to get the attention of humanity, humanity needs to feel it is getting attention. Regeneration creates livelihoods that bring life to people and people to life. It is work that links us to each other’s wellbeing, that provides those in poverty with purpose and a future of dignity and respect.”
Project Drawdown: https://drawdown.org/
“Project Drawdown’s mission is to help the world stop climate change—as quickly, safely, and equitably as possible.
We do this by advancing effective, science-based climate solutions and strategies; fostering bold, new climate leadership; and promoting new climate narratives and new voices.”
Climate Action Venn Diagrams: https://www.ayanaelizabeth.com/climatevenn
“How you – specifically you – can help with climate solutions:
To find your meaningful and bespoke way to help address the climate crisis, draw your own Climate Action Venn Diagram.”
Fires and hurricanes are deeply destructive, when their power is aimed in the wrong direction. We can harness our own inner power and aim it at solutions. They are within our reach, but we cannot flinch or shirk.
There is no need to argue the facts, and no need to feel helpless. We can, and must, be the generations that insists on nothing less than fully committed action, nothing less than intersectional leadership, nothing less than climate justice for all.
Be safe, be well, and stay committed.
