Breathe deeply, and work
In a week where the true threats to our safety, our democracy, and our livelihoods showed in stark clarity, we remember our stubborn insistence on connection, justice, and love.
Dear friends:
This week, we’ve been reminded in the starkest of ways that threats to the safety of our children do not come from friendly drag shows or books about queer life. They come from easy legal access to weapons designed to inflict mass casualties.
That the real threats to our democratic institutions do not come from a citizen grand jury fulfilling its duty based on the evidence it has reviewed, but from elected leaders and the shadow money behind them, using every opportunity to seed mistrust in the judicial system for their own benefit.
That the real threats to our economy do not rise from rejecting fossil fuels, but from our stubborn unwillingness to reduce greenhouse gases despite the evidence of catastrophic weather system after catastrophic weather system.
Our most powerful strategy to counter these evils is an even more stubborn insistence on our deep connection, to one another, to our human family, to the family of all beings, to the web of existence.
Those who would wield power over others and exploit the Earth must work hard to numb their inner knowledge of this connection. Embracing our connection allows us to relax, breathe, and get to work healing, nurturing, bringing justice and love.
Breathe deeply of this peace, for there is much work to do.
I am always grateful for your company on this journey.
