A chronicle of us
Nothing is inevitable except change. And how these changes will unfold, how they impact us and our loved ones, and our whole human family, deserves to be recorded.
Today I turn sixty, and I am thinking deeply about how to move into the upcoming era. I feel drawn to chronicle the changes we see as the new regime slugs its way into power. Not so much about the aspiring dictators and strongmen; plenty of text will be generated about their actions. Creating a firehose of chaos for public consumption is always a strategy intended to distract or confuse.
Here, I hope to begin chronicling us. Our beloved community.
Nothing is inevitable except change. And how these changes will unfold, how they impact us and our loved ones, and our whole human family, deserves to be recorded. If certain freedoms or open spaces for discourse disappear, even temporarily, let’s have that record in place: once, we were here, talking freely, taking care of one another.
Other folks, bless them, will continue sharing calls to action. I’ll link to a few of them at the end of this post. Please follow them and take the actions most meaningful and feasible for you. By no means will I stop taking my own actions, and I’ll share those, too, as it seems important to do so.
Remember as we move through the next two months that we are still here in that more free space. Even after the inauguration, nothing and no one can change our commitment to peace, inclusion, and freedom without our consent. The aspiring authoritarians can put as many roadblocks in the way of our actions as possible, but our hearts and spirits will stay constant.
Remember, too, that our commitment to peace requires us to humanize everyone. Our most powerful, most essential “resistance” is the insistence that every person is a full, complex, valuable individual. No matter where they (we) were born, what path they’ve (we’ve) taken, or mistakes they (we) have made, every human being (and all beings) on this planet holds worth. And our stories are worthy of being recorded.
Be safe and well, rest up, and be ready. We are still together.
As usual, wise words
