11/22/2020 Gratitude
This morning, as we head toward our national holiday devoted to giving thanks for the harvest, it seems important to pause and acknowledge the gifts we've been given during this incredibly sad and difficult time.
Amid the incalculable losses associated with the pandemic, thousands of our fellow humans have sustained their dedicated work to alleviate suffering and protect our communities: Public health workers, front line care providers, doctors, nurses, physician assistants, the custodial and operational teams that keep hospitals and clinics functioning, clean, and ready to care for patients. Farmers and truck drivers who keep our food supplies coming. Food and clothing banks, their donors and volunteers. Too many others to count.
Many of our fellow humans are doing, daily, what the leaders of our government cannot or will not do. From this, we should take heart - and take action. There is no morally neutral position when people are suffering. We decide where we stand: with them, and with those who work to ease that suffering. Where else would we choose to be?
I am also so grateful to be part of a community of caring, thoughtful people who are willing to engage in this messy enterprise of building what has been called "our beloved community." As you move through this week, be safe, be well, and find time to thank those who work hard for us.
Gratitude, like love, is multiplied by giving.
With love,
Liz
