11/15/2020 transition and reconciliation
Just a short note today. It's been a little over a week since the ticket of Biden/Harris earned enough electoral college votes to win, the lead has grown and solidified. We turn our attention to transition, and the concern that the current administration and its enablers will sabotage the peaceful transfer of power. And our hearts break with every report of increasing Covid 19 cases.
This morning I heard the Rabbi Jonathan Sacks articulate where it feels like we are (this is from an interview done a decade ago - perhaps this is where we've been for quite some time):
"We have not yet found a way of meshing the political society with the civil society, and that’s a big challenge. It’s doable, but you are bringing two very different cultures together, one that is used to solving problems through power and one that knows that power is the worst possible thing you can bring to bear."
I think this is a challenge for our times. Be safe and well as we engage in this work of cultural reconciliation.
With love and gratitude,
Liz
